Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of pure essential oils and other aromatic botanical extracts. It is administered through aerial diffusion (in the air so that you can smell it), direct inhalation (near your face so that it will travel through your airways in higher concentrations) or topical application (small amounts added to massage oils, creams or lotions then applied to your skin). Essential oils are highly concentrated and should never be consumed.
Each essential oil and specific combinations of essential oils has one or more therapeutic purpose. For example: Eucalyptus oil is known to reduce congestion. Lavender oil is known to promote relaxation and calmness. Peppermint oil is believed to energize and stabilize. Many essential oils are effective for anti-fungal and anti-bacterial use. Some also have great anti-inflammatory properties.
In the hands of trained and experienced professional practitioners, essential oils can be powerful therapeutic tools.
Therapeutic Living, LLC uses some type of aromatherapy to promote general wellness in almost every service performed and at no additional charge. For specific applications, please consult with your therapist when you schedule or just before your massage.
